Hair with Ambă
spaciousness, creativity and attention to detail
Welcome!
Hello! My name is Ambă Lucy Chenery and I’m so pleased that you’re thinking of getting your haircut with me. You’ll find everything you need to know below—if you have any further questions or would like to make a booking, click here.
Location
I’m based in Totnes, South Devon, and work from Taylor Hair Totnes, a few minutes walk from the centre of town. The shop is cosy and relaxed, and I share the space with my wonderful colleague and mentor Lee Taylor who’s been running his own thriving business here for the last 12 years.
Google Maps link: Taylor Hair Totnes.
Address: Taylor Hair Totnes, 13a Bridgetown, Totnes TQ9 5AB.
Free parking (5 minute walk away): https://maps.app.goo.gl/Mgd9xcRZL8dfVsPh8.
The shop is wheelchair accessible.
Pricing
My cuts are priced on a sliding scale of £40-£60.
I also have a limited number of concessionary places available for those on a low income—when booking, please make a specific request for this.
Days and times
I work on Mondays and alternate Wednesdays/Thursdays and my appointment times are usually 10am, 12pm, 2:30pm and 4:30pm. My appointments last 1.5-2 hours, depending on the requirements of our time together.
Evening appointments (available by request): If you need an evening appointment, I can normally offer a slot around 6pm—please feel free to ask.
Quieter appointments (available by request): For those who’d prefer a more private space, I have a few slots available when the shop is quieter—if this would support you, please specify when booking.
What’s included?
You’ll be offered a hot drink, a head massage, a thorough consultation before your cut and style. I use a range of organic, naturally-derived products and am very happy to offer hair care and styling advice.
My skillset
I consider myself an all round cutter and welcome all folk, styles and hair types—I work in a visual, methodical, sculptural way, approaching each person and haircut anew. I have a particular love for enhancing the natural movement of people’s hair and enjoy collaborating with my clients to find their ideal everyday ‘lived-in’ style; my goal is for you to leave the shop with a haircut that looks and feels like you, is easy to style and grows out smoothly. I love working with waves and curls, and also really enjoy precision cutting for styles such as bobs and cropped cuts.
Ceremonial haircuts
Having a haircut to mark a significant threshold moment in life (such as a birthday, stepping into a new role or letting something go) is a beautiful gift to give yourself; I offer ceremonial haircuts for people who’re looking for a more held, intentional, ritualised space. These longer, private sessions are totally bespoke and designed by us together—if you feel the call, it’d be an honour to work with you in this way. To find out more, drop me a message here.
My hairdressing story
After being faced with the often overwhelming, fast-paced environment of commercial hairdressing, I am now passionate about offering people a more person-centred, mindful, spacious salon experience—along with you being chuffed with your new hairdo, my wish is for you to leave feeling nourished, heard and closer to your authentic self.
Before training to be a hairdresser in my late twenties and discovering my love for the craft, I studied Fine Art at Newcastle University (mainly focusing on sculpture) and went on to work within the arts, education and well-being; my background—along with my creative practice, love of deep listening and dedication to conscious living—greatly informs
the way I work.
I invite you to see a haircut with me as self-care, an opportunity for self-expression, and a chance to let something go; I really look forward to meeting you!
